Connections & Exchanges Initiatives

Deadline: 11:59 PM on June 15

Through the 2023 Connections & Exchanges Initiatives program, the Edmonton Arts Council provides project and initiative funding to organizations to activate the City of Edmonton's 10-year plan, Connections & Exchanges.

This program invests in new and existing arts and heritage activity, enables resiliency and innovation, invests in collaborations and creations, supports the artistic work of not for profit organizations, and supports the collective responsibility of the arts community for the implementation of Connections & Exchanges.

Approximately $800,000 is budgeted for this program in 2023.

Step 1: Read the guidelines

Eligibility requirements

Eligible initiatives must be:

  • Relevant to the organization's mission, mandate, activities or strategic plans;
  • Engage and pay artists and/or arts professionals fair and professional compensation;
  • Time specific, with a defined start and end date;
  • Either a new initiative by an organization, or a significant augmentation/alteration of an existing activity.

Step 2: Register and apply on SmartSimple

Applicant organizations will provide brief responses to questions in the EAC's Online Portal: eac.smartsimple.ca. Accommodations will be provided if there are barriers to access.

The organization's profile in the EAC's Online Portal must be up-to-date, and that information will be relevant to the assessment of these initiatives.

If more information is required, the EAC will make targeted requests for more detail from applicants. That detail will be provided via revision of the existing application, with separate questions in the Online Portal.

If you're new to the EAC, you'll need to create a user account and applicant profile before you can begin any application. Read the step-by-step instructions for completing your registration and application. If you have already created a profile, you can log in and update your profile or begin your application.

For any technical support needs, contact the EAC by emailing support@edmontonarts.ca or by phone 780-424-2787.

If you have any questions regarding the content of the application or the process, please contact EAC Grants staff at grants@edmontonarts.ca or 780-424-2787.

Step 3: Wait for assessment

The assessment process typically takes 12-16 weeks from the application deadline to the announcement of successful grants. You can check the status of your application by logging into your account.

Once a Connections & Exchanges initiative is submitted, EAC staff will internally review the proposal's alignment with:

  • the aims of the Connections & Exchanges plan;
  • the organization's capacity to carry out the proposed activity; and
  • the degree to which activity expands upon existing programming.

A peer assessment panel will provide assessment, context, and recommendations to the EAC Board and its various committees. Assessors will consider the capacity of the organization to complete the project, and the clarity and feasibility of the timeline and budget. Investment decisions will be primarily informed by peer assessment, subject to review and final approval by the EAC Board of Directors. Decisions by the EAC Board through this process are
final.

If you have any questions about the SmartSimple registration process, please contact support@edmontonarts.ca.

For information or clarification on any aspect of your application please call 780-424-ARTS (2787) or contact grants@edmontonarts.ca.
